Experience true serenity with Hótel Laugarbakki

Where tranquility meets the wild north

In the small village of Laugarbakki, our 56-room hotel rests between wide northern plains and the gentle flow of the salmon river Miðfjarðará. Just minutes from Route 1, yet far enough to leave the noise behind, it’s a place where you can slow down and breathe deeply. Guests come here to watch the light shift across open fields, soak in the hot tubs beneath endless skies, and feel what real stillness sounds like. Every detail, from the rooms to the food, is shaped by this landscape — simple, genuine, and deeply rooted in the north.

Soak in the silence of the north

The outdoor hot tubs at Laugarbakki are where time seems to slow down. The air is crisp, the water naturally warm, and the river nearby adds a quiet rhythm to the evening. Many guests slip in at sunset and stay until the stars begin to appear, watching the sky change color over the mountains. It’s a simple kind of calm — the warmth of the water, the cool night air, and the open landscape reminding you what it feels like to just be present.

Taste the heart of Iceland

Our restaurant is small, welcoming, and guided by the seasons. The kitchen works with local farmers and fishermen to serve dishes that are honest and full of flavor. Breakfast is hearty, dinner unhurried, and every meal carries a sense of place. Guests linger over wine, share stories from the road, and watch the evening light fade across the fields. It’s less about dining out and more about world-class servive while feeling at home.

Rooms were very large. Hotel staff were really nice and extremely helpful. Nice breakfast offering. Loved the open air jacuzzis. We would stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Laugarbakki in North Iceland. The rooms are spacious and beautifully renovated, the food is excellent, and the wine selection—some imported directly by the hotel—is a rare treat. A stylish and welcoming place with great service and a local touch.

Large spacious room with comfy beds and a hot shower made for a restful stay after a long day of hiking. The hotel Interior and guest rooms were updated and very clean which seemed to be the norm for all of the hotels where we stayed in Iceland. Staff were happy, friendly and very helpful. It snowed overnight and the front desk clerk looked up the road conditions for us before we departed. Also shared local favorites and must see attractions nearby or on our route. Dinner was excellent and a nice buffet breakfast gave us the perfect start the day.

Don’t let the drive up scare you! We stayed in several hotels around the island for our 10-day loop road trip, and this was likely my favorite spot to stay.

Big and comfortable room . The best room I was in comparing to all the hotels . Big bed with seating area with two televisions . Specious bathroom with good number of towels and robs. I would recommend this hotel . Good breakfast as well . The location is remote . We stayed here on our way to Reykjavik from Myvatn.
