Hótel Laugarbakki family
Hotel Laugarbakki is a family owned company, run by the couple Ms.Hildur Ýr Arnarsdóttir, travel-tourism manager, and Mr.Örn Arnarson, industrial engineer. Hildur and Örn have been in hotel operations for many years, Hildur worked for Icelandair Hotels for a long time in the operation of Hotel Edda’s summer hotels all over the country. They bought Laugarbakkaskóli from Húnaþing Vestra in 2015, the winter was used for renovations, and they opened a new renovated hotel, Hotel Laugarbakki on the 17th of May 2016. The hotel is run by the couple along with their children and a select team of professionals that they have enlisted.

Life at Laugarbakki
The emphasis is on personal and good service, local food, professionalism, good wine and a pleasant experience. At our restaurant, BAKKI restaurant you can find, among other things; lamb from the region, shrimps from Meleyri in Hvammstangi, double-smoked lamb from local farm Tannstaðabakki in Miðfjörður and so on. To make the guest experience better, Hildur and Örn are importing selected wines and liqueurs that are available at GRETTISBAR and BAKKI restaurant. The selection is good, from dry Riesling to Ice-wine and dessert wines. Wine pairings with food can be ordered for groups and individuals.

We are very proud of our people, and we support them for further study and professionalism. Hotel Laugarbakki graduated its first student from the Hotel and Restaurant School in Iceland in January 2025, Inga Rut Ómarsdóttir is a graduated waiter from Hotel Laugarbakki with the highest score in professional subjects. Inga has also finished with 2. Level in Sommelier, and Inga Rut and Ragnar Bragi are both starting their master’s studies in the fall of 2025. We have selected people in every corner and emphasize professionalism and personal service.
